We have been made aware of an incident which took place yesterday afternoon near the entrance to the local park. At around 4:15pm, an adult male attempted to interact with several school children asking them if they wanted to play. The male was described as a white male in his 50s, drinking a can of alcohol. Belvidere Primary School has confirmed that no children were harmed in this incident, and they returned to the safety of the school. PC HILL from Monkmoor & Sutton Safer Neighbourhood Team has been speaking to Belvidere Primary School, Belvidere School, and Crowmoor Primary School today. The police are aware of this hopefully isolated incident and will be patrolling around the area during school end times when duties allow.
We would like to echo Belvidere Primary School’s message to parents that they do not wish to alarm anyone unnecessarily, but pupil safety is of the utmost importance. Belvidere Primary School’s message states that all parents and carers are encouraged to pick up their children directly from school for the foreseeable future.
Please do remind your children of safe behaviours when travelling to and from school such as walking in groups of friends, with trusted adults, and to always report anything to school staff that concerns them or makes them feel uncomfortable. If there is an immediate risk to the safety of any pupil or member of staff, please do not hesitate to contact the police on 999.
Having spoken to the schools, police have not been made aware of any other incidents. We want to reassure you that all school staff and your local Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team are working together to share information and safeguard children from harm.
